La Liga giants eye January move for Andy Robertson

Atletico Madrid are monitoring the situation closely.

Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the season with a 2-1 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.

That result followed a narrow 3-2 Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid earlier in the week.

Andy Robertson was involved in that European clash. He helped open the scoring after Mohamed Salah’s free-kick deflected off the left-back and wrong-footed Jan Oblak.

However, the Scotland international was an unused substitute for the derby win at the weekend. It was the third time in four league games that Robertson has not featured.

Currently, Arne Slot prefers the new signing Milos Kerkez at left-back. The 31-year-old has found himself in a reduced role this season.

For several years, Robertson was Liverpool’s undisputed starter on the left side of defence. That has now sparked renewed transfer interest.

According to Football Insider, Atletico Madrid are still exploring a potential move for Andrew Robertson in January.

The Spanish club were linked with the defender during the summer but opted instead to sign Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta.

However, Diego Simeone’s side have reportedly not given up hope of landing Robertson in the winter window.

The Atletico boss found out Robertson’s quality once again during their Champions League clash with Liverpool. Atletico already have Javi Galan competing for the left-back spot.

But the Spaniard’s contract expires at the end of the season. Robertson’s Liverpool deal also runs out in June 2026.

So, under current rules, he will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs from January. Also, there have also been quiet talks of a possible contract extension at Anfield.

Milos Kerkez still adapting after a shaky start as a Liverpool player. That is why the Premier League champions may be reluctant to let Robertson go mid-season.

As things stand, Atletico Madrid are monitoring the situation closely. But Liverpool have a decision to make ahead of the January window.
