Liverpool have finally made a major breakthrough in their long-running pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola.
The French international emerged as Andoni Iraola’s priority attacking target earlier this summer as Liverpool rebuilt their frontline.
Negotiations proved difficult because PSG initially demanded a substantial fee before allowing their winger to leave Paris.
However, Barcola made his intentions clear after deciding against extending his existing contract with the French champions.
Liverpool remained confident throughout discussions, particularly after reaching an agreement over personal terms with the 23-year-old.
Now, the Merseyside club have moved significantly closer to completing one of the biggest transfers of the summer window.
According to David Ornstein, Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Bradley Barcola.
The clubs agreed terms overnight on a package worth around £120 million, with more than £100 million guaranteed.
Sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon have handled negotiations between the two clubs.
However, Liverpool still need to finalise important details before completing the transfer officially.
Nothing has been signed yet, although the agreement represents a significant breakthrough after weeks of difficult negotiations.
Barcola has two years remaining on his PSG contract but does not want to extend his stay with the club.
PSG also left him out of their squad for the opening 2-2 league draw against Rennes.
The winger made 49 appearances last season, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions.
He also featured prominently for France during the World Cup, appearing in all eight matches and scoring three goals.
Barcola predominantly operates from the left but can also play on the opposite flank when required.
His expected arrival could also influence Liverpool’s plans for Cody Gakpo before the transfer window closes.
For Liverpool, the agreement represents another major step in Iraola’s attacking rebuild after Mohamed Salah’s departure.
