Liverpool and Manchester City offered chance to sign Real Madrid legend for free

Liverpool and City have been given the opportunity.

Liverpool and Manchester City made significant changes to their squads during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool spent heavily on their attack after Mohamed Salah’s departure. Bradley Barcola arrived from Paris Saint-Germain for £123 million, alongside Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet.

The Reds also strengthened defensively by bringing Ronald Araujo from Barcelona on loan.

Manchester City completed an extensive midfield rebuild following the departures of Bernardo Silva and Rodri.

Enzo Fernandez joined from Chelsea for £122 million, while Elliot Anderson arrived from Nottingham Forest for £113 million. City also added Iliman Ndiaye and Ayyoub Bouaddi.

However, both clubs now have an opportunity to add an experienced defender without paying a transfer fee.

According to TEAMtalk, intermediaries have offered Liverpool and Manchester City the chance to sign former Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal.

The 34-year-old became a free agent after ending his 13-year spell with Real Madrid during the summer.

Carvajal collected 26 major honours during his time in Madrid, including six Champions League titles. He had returned to the Spanish club from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013.

The Spain international has held talks with several clubs in his homeland since becoming available. He has also attracted interest from MLS, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in Europe.

Carvajal wants to continue playing and is considering his options before deciding on his next destination.

Neither Liverpool nor Manchester City have committed to signing him at this stage. Both clubs are assessing their options for additional full-back cover.

Meanwhile, intermediaries have also presented Carvajal to Fulham, who have shown potential interest in completing a deal.

A move to Craven Cottage could reunite him with Alvaro Arbeloa. The Fulham boss previously worked and played together with Carvajal during their time at Real Madrid.

Carvajal’s free-agent status means interested clubs would not need to negotiate a transfer fee. Liverpool and City have therefore been given the opportunity, but neither club has yet made a firm move.
