Liverpool identify Curtis Jones replacement

Curtis Jones has attracted persistent interest from Inter Milan.

Liverpool enter the new season following a major summer overhaul after finishing fifth in the Premier League last term.

Andoni Iraola has taken charge and inherited a significantly different squad following several high-profile departures from Anfield.

Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Ibrahima Konate all left, while Liverpool responded with several important additions.

Jeremy Jacquet arrived from Rennes for £60 million, while Victor Munoz joined from Osasuna for £34.5 million.

However, Liverpool could still face another significant departure before the summer transfer window closes.

Curtis Jones has attracted persistent interest from Inter Milan, despite Iraola publicly expressing his desire to keep him.

Inter have already seen two offers rejected, including a £21.7 million proposal submitted earlier this summer.

Further contact followed over a potential £30 million transfer, but Liverpool currently value Jones at around £35 million.

The 25-year-old can leave for free next summer unless he signs another contract, increasing the importance of his immediate future.

According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool could consider Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as an ideal replacement if Jones leaves.

The 22-year-old has also attracted reported interest from Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea this summer.

However, Palace want to retain Wharton and have reportedly placed a substantial £78 million valuation on the England international.

His ability to win possession and distribute the ball through short passing could strengthen Iraola’s midfield considerably.

Signing Wharton could also give Ryan Gravenberch greater freedom to operate further forward alongside Dominik Szoboszlai.

Liverpool have already invested heavily in younger players as they reshape the squad around Iraola’s long-term plans.

However, any potential move for Wharton would likely depend on Jones leaving Anfield before the transfer deadline.

Inter remain below Liverpool’s valuation, meaning the clubs must still bridge their financial gap before a transfer can progress.
