Liverpool are continuing their rebuild under Andoni Iraola after a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
The Reds finished fifth in the Premier League, failed to win a trophy and ultimately replaced Arne Slot at the end of the season. They have already started moving aggressively in the transfer market.
Liverpool confirmed the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna on Thursday after hijacking Newcastle United’s move for the Spanish winger.
The Reds are also searching for a replacement for Mohamed Salah. However, their efforts suffered a setback after RB Leipzig rejected a €100 million offer for their preferred target.
According to Philipp Hinze, the German club want €120 million before considering a sale.
While much of the focus has been on attacking reinforcements, Liverpool are also looking at other areas of the squad.
Defence has become a growing concern following the departure of Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid.
Liverpool also conceded more goals than ever before in a Premier League season last term, highlighting the need for improvement at the back.
As things stand, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez provide the only experienced centre-back options, while Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni remain largely untested at Premier League level.
That situation has prompted Liverpool to explore the market. According to De Telegraaf, Liverpool have made contact over a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven.
The report claims Liverpool and Barcelona have both approached the Netherlands international following an impasse in contract negotiations with Spurs.
Van de Ven was reportedly open to signing a new deal after Roberto De Zerbi arrived at Tottenham. However, no breakthrough has been reached and that has encouraged interest from elsewhere.
For now, Liverpool have only made contact. However, with uncertainty surrounding Van de Ven’s contract situation, the Reds appear ready to test Tottenham’s resolve in the weeks ahead.
