After joining Liverpool from Juventus in 2024, Federico Chiesa had a tough start to his life at Merseyside. The Italian winger played just 14 games last season, where he scored only 2 goals.
One of those goals came in the lost cause for the Reds as they suffered a defeat against Newcastle United by 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final.
The other goal Chiesa scored for Liverpool was against Accrington in the FA Cup third round fixture, which the Reds won by 4-0.
Throughout the Premier League campaign last season, which Liverpool won, Chiesa played only 6 games as he spent most of the time on the bench or was sidelined due to a muscle injury.
That is why even before the transfer window opened, there were talks about Federico Chiesa leaving Anfield. And, a return to Serie A was on the cards with multiple Italian clubs registered interest.
Napoli, AC Milan, and Inter Milan were interested in signing the former Juventus forward. However, none of these clubs submitted an official bid for the forward.
Knowing Federico Chiesa wanted to leave, Arne Slot didn’t even include him in the preseason squad. However, after selling Luis Diaz, everything changed.
Liverpool are still looking to bring in a replacement for Luis Diaz. The Reds are waiting patiently to sign Alexander Isak.
Without Luis Diaz’s replacement, Arne Slot had to trust Chiesa and bring him on when his team was in trouble in their opening Premier League game against Bournemouth.
Chiesa scored the much-needed goal to get the Premier League champions ahead in the game and secure the win.
The equation has changed since then, and now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Federico Chiesa has changed his mind and he wants to stay at Liverpool.
The response is also the same from the Reds, and Chiesa will be staying at Anfield this season, as Arne Slot might have to trust the Italian more in case they fail to land Alexander Isak.
🚨 Federico Chiesa and his agent have informed Liverpool about clear desire to stay at the club.
Chiesa considered to leave in June/July when #LFC rejected bids for Diaz and Federico was left out of Asian tour.
