Liverpool pull out of deal to sign PSG winger

Liverpool have now pulled out of a potential deal for PSG winger.

Liverpool are continuing a major squad rebuild following a disappointing 2025-26 campaign under former manager Arne Slot.

The Reds finished fifth in the Premier League with 60 points and missed out on Champions League qualification. As a result, Andoni Iraola replaced Slot ahead of the new campaign.

Liverpool have since adjusted their attacking options following Mohamed Salah’s departure on a free transfer this summer.

Victor Munoz arrived from Osasuna for £34.5 million, while Jeremy Jacquet joined from Rennes for £60 million. Liverpool also secured Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

However, Iraola still wants another winger before the September 1 transfer deadline. Bradley Barcola remains a major option, while Liverpool had also explored another PSG attacker.

The Reds considered signing both forwards, but completing the two transfers could have cost around €200 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have now pulled out of a potential deal for PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye after holding talks with his agent.

Liverpool reportedly spoke with Jorge Mendes regarding a possible move before deciding PSG’s valuation was currently too high.

PSG value Mbaye at between €40 million and €50 million. The 18-year-old can operate on either flank but faces significant competition for regular minutes in Paris.

Liverpool’s interest initially emerged following Salah’s departure and continued uncertainty surrounding Cody Gakpo’s future.

However, Barcola remains firmly on Liverpool’s radar despite PSG placing a valuation of around £145 million on the 23-year-old.

Romano reports that talks between Liverpool and PSG over Barcola are still ongoing, while the winger is keen on moving to Anfield.

So, Liverpool have abandoned their pursuit of Mbaye, but their search for another winger continues with Barcola still an option.
