Liverpool reached gentleman’s agreement to sign England star

Liverpool may already have a gentleman’s agreement in place.

Arne Slot

Arne Slot is finally turning things around for Liverpool this season. After a streak of poor results since their sensational start to their Premier League defence, the Reds are having a good run.

In the last five games in the Premier League, Liverpool have been unbeaten. The last time they tasted defeat was against Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Now, Arne Slot will have an eye on the January transfer market. The Reds will be looking to do some business so that they can at least salvage Champions League football next season.

For that, they need to make a few good signings. Now, Liverpool may have quietly laid the groundwork for a major signing in the near future.

According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, the Reds could already have a private understanding with Marc Guehi following a dramatic collapse of a summer move.

Guehi came close to joining Liverpool on deadline day, only for Crystal Palace to pull the plug after failing to line up a replacement.

With the England defender’s contract expiring next summer, Palace now appear to be running out of time.

Solhekol believes Liverpool are already planning ahead. He said (via GIVEMESPORT):

“I’ve heard talk that he may have a gentleman’s agreement with Liverpool, that he will sign for Liverpool.”

The Sky Sports reporter suggested that the Anfield hierarchy view Guehi as a long-term solution. The situation is far from straightforward, though.

From January, Guehi will be free to negotiate with overseas clubs, with Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Real Madrid all monitoring his status.

Premier League regulations prevent Liverpool from making a pre-contract offer at that stage. Yet, defensive reinforcements remain a priority for the Reds.

Whether Liverpool wait until 2026 or move in January, securing Guehi would represent a significant statement.
