FC Porto have not waited around this summer. After finishing 3rd in Liga Portugal last season. They are looking to push on and win the league next season by building to the brilliant squad they already have.

A new centre back has been on their list. After the departure of Otavio and Ivan Marcano retiring. As well as injuries that hurt them throughout the season.

So Francesco Farioli and the club have decided to go all in. At first they have focused on recruiting other targets that they though were priorities.

The centre back is strong and solid at the back. Last season he played 30 matches.

Last season was an unfortunate one for his club as they were relegated after finishing last in the table. but he  helped his team back to the Premier League in the 2023/24 campaign. There has been some tensions behind the scenes with the player wanting to play at a higher level.

Now according to Fabrizio Romano FC Porto have agreed a 4 year deal for Jan Bednarek and the transfer fee is reported at around £7.5m.

The Polish international looks to be FC Porto’s new centre back.

If the deal gets done it will be a major statement to the rest of Liga Portugal as it shows they are building a squad to push further in the League next season so they can hopefully win it. Also they hold strength and depth so that they can rest players so that they don’t get injured for major League games.

Southampton will now be looking at replacements for the defender so they can also bounce back to the Premier League under new manger Will Still after being relegated last season to the EFL Championship.
