Liverpool are considering their midfield options after making significant changes elsewhere in Andoni Iraola’s squad during the summer.
The Reds invested heavily in their attack and defence, with Bradley Barcola joining from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth up to £123 million.
Jeremy Jacquet arrived from Rennes for £60 million, while Victor Munoz completed a £34.5 million move from Osasuna.
Liverpool also signed Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona and added young goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk for £30 million.
However, the club did not make another central midfield addition after selling Curtis Jones during the summer transfer window.
Liverpool have since collected five points from their opening three Premier League matches under Iraola.
They drew 2–2 against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest before beating Ipswich Town 2–0, with Alexander Isak scoring twice.
However, Liverpool are already considering how to strengthen their midfield during the next two transfer windows.
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are set to reignite their interest in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.
The Reds have monitored Wharton for some time and continue to admire the England midfielder. A summer move did not materialise as Palace refused to sell him.
However, sources expect the situation to change over the next two transfer windows. A January departure is considered possible, although summer 2027 remains the likelier timeframe.
Wharton remains happy at Palace and did not push for a summer transfer. However, he wants to play European football regularly and compete at the highest level.
Palace will demand more than £75 million for the midfielder if they eventually sanction his departure.
Liverpool will also face competition should they pursue a deal. Newcastle United are monitoring Wharton’s situation and could become active once an exit becomes possible.
Chelsea also have Wharton on their shortlist, although Lamine Camara and Alex Scott currently rank ahead of him.
Liverpool nevertheless remain firmly interested as they assess another midfield addition heading into 2027.
