Liverpool show interest in Japan World Cup star

Liverpool have a history of recruiting Japanese players.

Liverpool endured a frustrating 2025-26 campaign that ended without silverware.

A difficult season also brought major change in the dugout, with Arne Slot leaving the club before Andoni Iraola arrived to lead a new era at Anfield.

The Reds have already started reshaping the squad this summer. Jeremy Jacquet has strengthened the defence, while Victor Munoz has arrived to add more quality in attack.

Liverpool also remain in talks for Ayyoub Bouaddi and continue pursuing Bradley Barcola despite missing out on Yan Diomande.

The rebuild is not limited to defence and attack. Liverpool are also looking at options in midfield as Iraola prepares for his first season in charge.

Kaishu Sano has emerged as one of the players attracting attention after an impressive campaign for Mainz.

The midfielder started all 34 Bundesliga matches last season before carrying that form into the World Cup with Japan.

According to Nikkan Sports, Liverpool are interested in signing Kaishu Sano following his performances for both club and country.

His displays at the World Cup have strengthened the growing interest surrounding the Japanese international.

Sano enjoyed an outstanding tournament despite Japan’s Round of 32 exit. He provided an assist during the group stage before scoring against Brazil in the knockout rounds.

Although Japan eventually lost 2-1, the midfielder’s performances caught the attention of several European clubs.

The report adds that Liverpool are not alone in the race. Other clubs are also monitoring Sano after his consistent displays in Germany and on the international stage.

Liverpool have a history of recruiting Japanese players, and Sano has now emerged as another potential option.

For now, Liverpool’s interest remains at an early stage. However, Sano’s impressive World Cup campaign has placed him firmly on the club’s radar ahead of the new season.
