Liverpool are somehow getting their season back on track. Still, they are ten points behind the Premier League leaders Arsenal.
However, the top 4 finish is not looking out of their hands as they are sitting fourth in the table. That is why the Reds should be looking to invest more in January.
After spending around £450 million in the summer, injuries and the unavailability of key players are making things tough for Arne Slot.
That is why Liverpool are ready to push for a player they wanted to sign. However, one of their rivals is reportedly leading the race for the signature of the Premier League ace.
Liverpool are can rival Manchester City for Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window. Various reports suggest the race is not over yet.
Transfer News Live already mentioned that the Reds could make a last-minute move to try and hijack the Semenyo to Manchester City deal.
However, Manchester City currently lead the race. Semenyo is believed to prefer a move to the Etihad. His representatives are due in Manchester to finalise contract terms.
The winger has a £65 million release clause. That clause becomes active from New Year’s Day and will run until January 10. City are hoping to complete the deal quickly once the window opens.
As per Fabrizio Romano, City have already reached a verbal agreement with the player. However, Bournemouth are expecting late interest from elsewhere.
According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are preparing to make a move. Semenyo’s release clause is not active yet. Also, the Reds may still have an advantage.
That advantage could be Richard Hughes. Liverpool’s sporting director previously worked at Bournemouth. He was in charge when Semenyo joined from Bristol City in 2023.
Hughes signed the forward for £12 million. He beat competition from Crystal Palace to secure the deal. That prior relationship could now play a role.
Semenyo has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 17 appearances this season. Overall, he has 31 goals and 13 assists in 107 games for Bournemouth.
