Manchester City were slow to get off the blocks and conceded two goals in the first half. The first goal they conceded was due to a slip from John Stones, which played Rcharlison on.

The second goal was due to a mistake by James Trafford. City were trailing by 2-0 in the first half. Marmoush had two chances to open the scoring but failed.

But Pep Guardiola’s men started the game well in the second half. Nathan Ake should have scored but was blocked by the Spurs’ defence.

Nathan Ake came close to opening the scoring. But, after that, Manchester City kept trying but failed to score and suffered a defeat in the very first game at the Etihad this season.

So, here is the Man City player ratings vs Tottenham from their 2-0 defeat at the Etihad.

Man City player ratings vs Tottenham – Premier League (4-2-3-1)

GK: James Trafford (4/10)

Trafford made a mess of a back pass from Rico Lewis, and that could have been costly for City. But he was surely at fault for the second goal that City conceded, as it was a gift for the Spurs.

RB: Rico Lewis (5/10)

Lewis did put a shift in, but was not effective. The Spurs forwards were getting the better of him throughout the game.

CB: John Stones (5/10)

Stones was at fault marginally for the first goal of the Spurs. Also, he was not comfortable with the relentless pressing of Tottenham.

CB: Ruben Dias (6/10)

Dias had a decent game but was caught in position at times. He wasn’t going forward as much as he usually does because of the pace offered by the Spurs forwards.

LB: Rayan Ait-Nouri (NA/10)

Ait-Nouri got injured after playing for just 20 minutes. So, he didn’t have enough time to contribute to the Man City vs Tottenham game.

  • SUB – Nathan Ake (5/10): Kudus created problems for Ake in this game, and he settled down as Kudus left the pitch. He could have scored at the start of the first half.

DM: Tijjani Reijnders (6/10)

Reijnders had a decent game. However, his team let him down. It will be a disappointing debut for the Dutchman at the Etihad.

DM: Nico Gonzalez (5/10)

Gonzalez barely got noticed in the game and couldn’t cope with the relentless press of the Spurs midfielders.

  • SUB – Rodri (5/10): Rodri came on late in the game but couldn’t create the impact everyone expected.

RM: Oscar Bobb (4/10)

Bobb failed to create any impact in the game. That is why Pep had to take him off and bring on Foden.

  • SUB – Phil Foden (4/10): Foden looked lively from the start but failed to create any impact.

AM: Rayan Cherki (5/10)

Cherki started in place of Bernardo Silva. The Frenchman looked confident but failed to create any impact throughout the game.

  • SUB – Bernadro Silva (5/10): The Spurs didn’t allow the Manchester City captain to get into the game. He tried to create a difference but failed.

LM: Omar Marmoush (5/10)

Marmoush got a gift from Pedro Porro early in the game, but couldn’t convert it. Also, he failed to score a sitter when Haaland played him in.

  • SUB – Jeremy Doku (6/10): Since Doku came on, things started to happen for City. He did put a shift in, but couldn’t help City get a goal in this game.

ST: Erling Haaland (5/10)

Apart from the chance he created for Marmoush, Haaland had an off-day. He didn’t get the service he was looking for. It was a very different game from the one against Wolves.

Manager: Pep Guardiola (4/10)

Starting James Trafford when Ederson was fit is a questionable decision. But, after what happened at Molineux, he decided to trust Trafford. But, his decision got backfired.

And now, Ederson should start against Brighton if he stays. Also, his substitutes failed to make an impact in the game. It was a disappointing game for Pep Guardiola.
