Manchester City got their 2025/26 season off to a brilliant start last weekend.

They earned a 4-0 win away to Wolverhampton Wanderers as they ended the opening weekend top of the Premier League table.

Erling Haaland was his usual imperious self, with two goals.

New signings Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders were also on the scoresheet in the perfect start for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Today, City face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, with the score at 0-0 with eight minutes played.

There were some omissions from their starting lineup that have fed some doubt into the future of three experienced players, who were all key parts of the 2022/23 treble winning side

Their lineup was announced for today’s lunchtime game against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Both Ilkay Gündogan and Manuel Akanji were not named in the squad, with goalkeeper Éderson also on the bench.

This would not be Gündogan‘s first goodbye to the blue half of Manchester, having left for Barcelona in 2023.

He returned after one season in Spain, but failed to have the same impact as his first spell, as City struggled in 2024/25.

Akanji joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 and went on to make 136 appearances in all competitions, winning seven trophies in the process.

With Éderson linked with a move to Süper Lig side Galatasaray, his trophy laden spell at the club looks set to come to a close.

Guardiola appears to be overseeing another overhaul at the club as they aim to dominate English football once again.
