There is always one transfer story each summer that nobody quite sees coming.
For Manchester City, that surprise might arrive between the posts.
After a long spell of stability in goal, the English champions are quietly preparing for what could be a major shift both in personnel and in approach.
At the heart of this sudden movement lies uncertainty surrounding a trusted figure.
With his contract winding down and offers flooding in from Saudi Arabia, City’s long-standing goalkeeper is now more open than ever to a move.
Several clubs from the Gulf region are reportedly preparing lucrative proposals for Ederson, making a summer exit increasingly likely.
Behind the scenes, Pep Guardiola is already looking ahead. The City boss, known for his forward-thinking style, is not one to wait until the last minute.
And this time, he has his eye on someone he has admired for years.
According to Fichajes, Manchester City have identified a very familiar face as their top target, someone who not only brings experience and composure but also fits Guardiola’s tactical vision perfectly.
That man is Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The German goalkeeper, a mainstay at Barcelona, could now be on the move.
His future at the Camp Nou is tied to the arrival of Joan García, the promising young shot-stopper Barcelona see as their long-term solution.
With financial pressures and the desire to refresh the squad, Barcelona might just be open to parting ways with their current No.1.
Guardiola, who has closely followed Ter Stegen’s progress since his days in La Liga, sees him as the ideal replacement for Ederson.
The move would not only reinforce City’s goalkeeping department but also send a clear message ahead of another long European campaign.
All eyes now turn to Marc-Andre ter Stegen and how open he is to this new chapter.
