Manchester City reach verbal agreement with Rodri’s replacement

Manchester City pushed Arsenal all the way in last season’s Premier League title race before finishing as runners-up.

The club also lifted the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, although their Champions League campaign ended in the Round of 16. The new season has brought major changes at the Etihad Stadium.

Enzo Maresca has replaced Pep Guardiola, while several experienced players have already left the club during the summer transfer window.

Rodri’s future has also become one of the biggest talking points. The Spain international has entered the final year of his contract and continues to attract strong interest from Real Madrid.

Manchester City still hope to extend his stay, but reports suggest they are preparing for every possible outcome.

The club have now identified a long-term midfield option as uncertainty surrounding Rodri continues.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester City have reached a verbal agreement with Ayyoub Bouaddi and remain in negotiations with Lille to complete the transfer.

The report states that City are leading the race for the 18-year-old despite interest from several top European clubs.

The Premier League side view Bouaddi as one of the brightest young midfielders in Europe and believe he can become a key player in the future.

There are also reports that Rodri’s situation has accelerated City’s interest. The club recognise the risk of losing the midfielder but still want to convince him to remain at the Etihad Stadium.

However, signing Bouaddi would not automatically signal Rodri’s departure. Manchester City continue working on a new contract while preparing a contingency plan if the Spaniard leaves.

Negotiations with Lille are expected to prove difficult. The French club value Bouaddi at around €100 million.

Both clubs are therefore exploring different structures to reduce the overall cost, including a loan with an option to buy or deferred payments.
