Manchester City have entered a major period of transition following Pep Guardiola’s departure at the end of last season.
The Citizens finished second in the Premier League but still secured two domestic trophies. They beat Arsenal in the EFL Cup final before defeating Chelsea to lift the FA Cup.
Enzo Maresca has since taken charge and is reshaping the squad around his own ideas. City have already lost several experienced players, while Rodri continues to attract strong transfer interest.
The club also broke its transfer record to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million. However, further midfield changes could still happen before the window closes.
According to Football Insider, Tijjani Reijnders could consider leaving Manchester City if he does not receive enough first-team football this season.
The Netherlands international has impressed Maresca during preseason and started several matches on City’s tour of Asia.
However, regular minutes remain the key issue for the 28-year-old. Reijnders wants clarity over whether Maresca sees him as an important starter during the upcoming campaign.
The midfielder dropped out of the regular starting XI under Guardiola last season despite making 50 appearances across all competitions.
Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are both monitoring his situation as they consider further midfield additions before the deadline.
Forest could be particularly well placed financially after selling Anderson to City for a club-record fee earlier this summer.
Reports suggest Reijnders could command around £55 million if Manchester City eventually decide to consider offers.
For now, City are reluctant to sanction further departures until they complete more incoming business.
Reijnders’ future could therefore depend heavily on his role under Maresca. If regular starts are not available, the midfielder may push for a move before the transfer window closes.
