It has already been an exciting summer at Manchester City.
Back in June, they announced the signings of Rayan Cherki, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Tijjani Reijnders.
To add to that, they signed youngster Sverre Halseth Nypan, before today announcing James Trafford.
Meanwhile, all time club great Kevin De Bruyne left, as well as Kyle Walker.
Now, there is set to be another departure of a high profile name.
As per Fabrizio Romano, City have told goalkeeper Stefan Ortega that is he free to leave the club following the arrival of Trafford.
The German goalkeeper joined City in 2022, and has made 56 appearances for the club.
His most notable moment was undoubtedly his one-one-save to deny Heung-Min Son and keep the English Premier League title in Manchester.
When Ederson has been fit, Ortega has nearly exclusively always been on the bench.
With the new arrival of Trafford, his future at the club has now become untenable.
At the moment, Germany have an issue with goalkeepers.
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is coming off an ACL, and is not Barcelona number one anymore.
Meanwhile, Manuel Neuer retired after the home Euros.
Should Ortega go somewhere and be a number one, he would do his World Cup chances absolutely no harm.
Being a number three goalkeeper is for older players such as Scott Carson – not a talented player in his prime years.
It is clear that he needs to go somewhere and play for the sake of his career.
Assuming that City get a transfer fee, they will have made a profit, as he joined on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld.
As free signings go, he will go down as one of the more successful ones in the English Premier League.
