Manchester United are preparing for another season under Michael Carrick after securing Champions League qualification last term.
Carrick transformed United’s fortunes after taking charge in January. He guided them to 12 victories from their final 17 matches and a third-place finish.
Bruno Fernandes played a major role in that revival with a record 21 assists. Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha also reached double figures for goals.
United have continued reshaping Carrick’s squad during the summer transfer window.
Andrey Santos arrived from Chelsea for £48 million, while United signed Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £35 million. Karl Darlow also joined on a free transfer.
Several players have moved in the opposite direction. Casemiro joined Inter Miami, while Rasmus Hojlund completed a permanent move to Napoli.
United are still looking to strengthen several positions before the transfer deadline. Their plans include adding another centre-back to Carrick’s squad.
According to German source Fussball Daten, Manchester United are maintaining close contact with Edmond Tapsoba’s representatives over a potential move.
United face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United for the Bayer Leverkusen defender. Premier League clubs currently lead the race for his signature.
Leverkusen value the 27-year-old at €50 million (£43 million) amid growing interest in his services.
Tapsoba stands at 6ft 4in and offers the physical profile United could add to their defence. He can also build play quickly and cover large areas from centre-back.
The Burkina Faso international made 28 appearances during Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning campaign in 2023/24.
United’s interest comes amid concerns about the long-term fitness of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez.
However, United have not yet moved beyond maintaining contact with Tapsoba’s representatives.
Tottenham Hotspurand Newcastle remain interested, meaning United could face significant Premier League competition if they decide to pursue a deal.
