After a humiliating season for the Red Devils, Ruben Amorim wants a change in goal.
The Manchester United boss is not fully convinced by Andre Onana. He is ready to move the Cameroonian goalkeeper on and bring in a fresh face.
The club had been eyeing Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez as a top choice. But that deal is now off the table. Villa are not interested in selling, and negotiations have completely stopped.
Manchester United also made contact for PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma. As reported by Transfer News Live, the Italian is admired at Old Trafford, but talks have yet to progress.
Now, the club is looking at a goalkeeper with Premier League experience.
According to talkSPORT, Manchester United have turned their attention to Nick Pope, the experienced Newcastle United goalkeeper.
At 33 years old, Pope brings plenty of Premier League experience. He made his name at Burnley before joining Newcastle in 2022 for £10 million.
Since then, Pope has been a regular starter under Eddie Howe. But things are chaging at St. James’ Park as well.
Newcastle have reached a deal to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton on loan, with an option to buy. Ramsdale is expected to become their long-term number one.
This development could open the door for Pope to leave. His contract runs until 2026, but his status at the club might change quickly once Ramsdale arrives.
Manchester United see Pope as the right profile. The English international has proven his capability in the Premier League. Amorim wants a keeper who can compete with or even replace Onana.
And with the Red Devils facing financial pressure this summer, Pope’s likely lower price tag makes him even more appealing.
There are no formal talks yet, but if Ramsdale’s move goes through, do not be surprised to see Nick Pope step into the spotlight at Old Trafford.
