On Wednesday evening, it was widely reported that Manchester United were showing an interest in Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion.
However, it is also accepted that a deal to sign Baleba would cost an extraordinary amount of money.
We all know how Brighton owner Tony Bloom operates by now.
They managed to get £115m – a British transfer record – for Moises Caicedo.
Therefore, United will need a back up plan in case a deal proves too expensive.
Outlet TBR Football are reporting that Ruben Amorim’s side have six alternatives in mind.
This includes Angelo Stiller of VfB Stuttgart.
Over the last two seasons, the former Bayern Munich product has seriously impressed with his performances.
He was part of the side that finished above Bayern in 23/24, and the side that won the DFB Pokal last season.
In terms of profile, he is a very creative player, but also one who gets stuck in and helps win the ball back.
His performances for Stuttgart were rewarded with a Germany debut last season, and three more caps followed.
Stiller currently has three years on his contract, so there is no immediate pressure to sell.
However much they end up getting for him, it will certainly be a big profit on the £4.5m paid in 2023.
This could be a very shrewd, clever addition for United.
It would also be much cheaper than Baleba, which could allow them to improve other areas too.
