Manchester United reshaped their midfield during Michael Carrick’s first summer window as permanent head coach.
United signed Carlos Baleba from Brighton for £65 million and added Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £48 million.
Youri Tielemans also arrived from Aston Villa for £35 million, while Karl Darlow joined on a free transfer.
However, Carrick ended the window without another specialist left-back despite United exploring several options before the deadline.
Luke Shaw therefore remains the club’s main senior option on the left side of defence. United had identified Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall as one potential solution for that position.
However, Hall recently signed a new contract at St James’ Park. His new agreement also contains no release clause.
United have now turned their attention towards another Premier League left-back as they plan their next move.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United are closely monitoring Bournemouth defender Adrien Truffert and view him as a leading target.
United scouts have watched the 24-year-old regularly, while the recruitment team considers him a suitable fit for Carrick’s back four.
Truffert joined Bournemouth from Rennes last summer and started every Premier League match during his first season.
The France international recorded one goal and five assists during that campaign and has maintained his place this season.
Bournemouth value Truffert at around £60 million and would prefer to keep him beyond the current campaign.
United would like to pursue a deal in January, although they recognise that completing a winter transfer could prove difficult.
The club could instead make its move next summer and has already started preparing for that possibility.
Hall remains on United’s radar, but his Newcastle contract has complicated any potential attempt to sign him. United therefore see Truffert as an alternative as Carrick looks for a long-term option at left-back
