Manchester United are trying to make quick moves this summer. But their past record of sealing transfer deals at a premium price is still haunting them.
The Sir Jim Ratcliffe regime at Old Trafford is trying to build something new that will restore the pride at the Theatre of dreams.
After sacking Erik ten Hag in the middle of the season last year, they are looking to back their chosen one, Ruben Amorim.
After securing Matheus Cunha from Wolves, their focus has shifted to another exciting name from the Premier League, Bryan Mbeumo
Mbeumo has had a strong campaign with Brentford. With Amorim aiming to reshape the attack, adding a player who thrives in quick transitions is a clear priority.
Brentford, however, are standing firm. They know the value of what they have.
The forward is still under contract, and the west London club want every penny upfront if they are to part ways.
United have no issues with the overall price, around £65 million, but the structure of the payment remains a sticking point.
Despite this, the mood inside Old Trafford is positive. Bryan Mbeumo wants the move.
He has already agreed personal terms in principle, and his heart seems set on wearing red.
Internally, Manchester United are holding regular meetings to carve out the details. They believe an agreement is close. But time is not on their side.
According to Sky Sports, United are aiming to finalise the deal before their squad flies out for the pre-season tour of the United States.
That deadline is driving urgency behind the scenes. Everyone knows a late move would complicate preparations for the new season.
Also, Ruben Amorim wants to have the players in early so that they can integrate with the team before the start of the season.
Having Mbeumo at the pre-season tour of the United States becomes a necessity because of that.
Manchester United are pushing hard, and with Mbeumo keen on the move, this story may still have a quick ending.
