Marcus Rashford could help Manchester United sign midfielder

Carrick has previously indicated he is willing to work with Rashford.

Manchester United continue to reshape their squad ahead of the new season.

Michael Carrick guided the Red Devils back into the Champions League after an impressive second half of last season.

Club officials have since focused on strengthening the midfield during the summer transfer window. Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have already arrived at Old Trafford.

However, United remain interested in adding another central midfielder before the window closes. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford‘s future remains unresolved.

The England international returned to Manchester United after Barcelona decided against activating their option to sign him permanently.

Rashford enjoyed an impressive loan spell in Spain, but the Catalan club instead completed a move for Anthony Gordon. United are still looking for a permanent solution for Rashford.

The club want to reduce their wage bill by moving on Rashford, whose £325,000-a-week salary remains one of the highest in the squad.

However, no club has yet matched Manchester United’s demands. Now, Rashford could become part of another transfer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via the Daily Mirror), Manchester United could use the forward in a deal to sign Roma midfielder Manu Kone.

Roma are reportedly open to selling the France international as they look to raise funds and comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Manchester United admire Kone but have been reluctant to meet the Italian club’s £51M asking price. A swap deal has therefore emerged as a possible solution.

Roma are interested in signing a left-sided forward, making Rashford a potential option. However, his salary could complicate negotiations.

The Italian club will want Manchester United to cover part of his wages if any loan agreement is discussed.

Carrick has previously indicated he is willing to work with Rashford if he remains at Old Trafford. Even so, Manchester United still prefer a permanent departure.
