Newcastle United are continuing their midfield rebuild after several major departures changed the shape of Matthias Jaissle’s squad.
Bruno Guimaraes joined Arsenal for £75 million, while Sandro Tonali also left St James’ Park for Tottenham Hotspur. Anthony Gordon moved to Barcelona as part of the summer overhaul.
Those exits have left Newcastle searching for more quality and experience in midfield. Their pursuit of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg also collapsed after the former Spurs player changed his mind over a move.
Newcastle have now turned their attention towards Inter Milan, where two midfielders have emerged on their radar.
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Davide Frattesi and have also enquired about Aleksandar Stankovic.
Inter have told Frattesi that he can leave this summer as they attempt to create space for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones. The Serie A club value the Italy international at around €30 million.
The 26-year-old is also attracting interest from Juventus. However, Frattesi is open to playing in England after previously attracting Premier League attention.
Newcastle’s interest also extends to Stankovic. The Magpies have asked Inter about the 21-year-old Serbian midfielder after the Italian club brought him back from Club Brugge this summer.
Brentford have already seen a €40 million offer rejected for Stankovic. Manchester United and Tottenham have also shown interest in him previously.
However, Newcastle face a much tougher task with Stankovic. Inter want to keep him, while the midfielder also wants to remain at San Siro and establish himself there.
That leaves Frattesi as the more realistic option for Newcastle at present. Inter’s willingness to discuss his departure could give Jaissle another solution as he tries to rebuild his midfield.
