Newcastle United set to sign former Real Madrid winger

If the deal goes through, Real Madrid would receive around €17.5M.

Newcastle United continue searching for attacking reinforcements after a summer of major changes at St James’ Park.

The Magpies lost Anthony Gordon to Barcelona in a £70M deal and now want to strengthen their options in wide areas.

Eddie Howe’s side have monitored several targets as they prepare for the new campaign. Now, a former Real Madrid winger appears close to completing a move to Tyneside.

According to journalist Ramon Alvarez, Newcastle United are set to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna. The winger enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season after leaving Real Madrid last summer.

Munoz joined Osasuna in a deal that allowed Real Madrid to retain significant control over his future.

The Spanish giants regularly include sell-on clauses and buyback options when academy graduates leave the club.

That strategy has allowed Real Madrid to benefit financially when former youngsters continue their development elsewhere. Munoz is the latest example of that strategy.

The attacker impressed during his first season with Osasuna and quickly established himself as one of the club’s standout performers.

His performances also earned him his first call-up to the Spain national team. Reports suggest Newcastle are willing to pay €35M to secure his signature.

If the deal goes through, Real Madrid would receive around €17.5M because they retained 50% of the player’s economic rights.

For now, Munoz appears set for the Premier League, while Real Madrid prepare to benefit from a deal involving one of their former academy talents.
