Pep Guardiola recently brought down the curtain on one of the greatest managerial eras in Premier League history. He left Manchester City at the end of the season.
The Spaniard spent a decade at the Etihad Stadium. And he transformed Manchester City into one of the most dominant teams in European football.
During his time in England, Guardiola won multiple Premier League titles and a Champions League title. Also, he completely reshaped the club’s identity on the pitch.
However, Manchester City was not the only place where Guardiola built a legendary legacy as a manager.
Before arriving in England, the 55-year-old enjoyed incredible success at Barcelona. Undoubtedly, he coached one of the greatest football teams ever assembled.
That period also saw Guardiola work alongside Lionel Messi during the Argentine’s peak years at Camp Nou. Together, Guardiola and Messi dominated European football and won multiple major trophies with Barcelona.
Because of that relationship, many people believed the pair could eventually reunite later in their careers.
Now, following Guardiola’s departure from Manchester City, an opportunity to reunite with Messi reportedly emerged in the United States.
Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham identified Guardiola as his dream replacement for Javier Mascherano after the Argentine left the MLS club last month.
The move would have reunited Guardiola with Messi at Inter Miami and instantly become one of the biggest appointments in Major League Soccer history.
However, according to the Mirror, Guardiola has rejected the chance to join Inter Miami despite Beckham’s efforts to convince him.
The Spaniard reportedly wants to step away from football temporarily and plans to take a sabbatical after his Manchester City departure.
Reports also claim Guardiola has no intention of travelling to the World Cup this summer despite Inter Miami hoping to speak with him directly during the tournament.
Instead, Guardiola reportedly wants time away from management to spend with family and recharge mentally after years of constant pressure at the highest level.
