Xavi Simons has been a player much discussed in recent months.
Long linked with a move to the Premier League Simons has been strong linked with a move to Chelsea this summer.
With 65 goals and 53 assists in 173 career games at the club level, this has led to the Netherlands international being a very highly sought after player.
Leipzig only made Simons’ 2023 loan move permanent in January, but they could be about to cash in.
This would be a blow to the German side, who finished seventh in last season’s Bundesliga campaign.
In fact, since the club was founded in 2009, last season was their lowest league finish in their history.
Leipzig lost 6-0 in their season opener last night to champions Bayern Munich, a game Simons played in.
Some Leipzig fans may feel the money gained from Simon’s sale could help improve a squad that saw a dip in results last season.
RB Leipzig director issues Xavi Simons update
RB Leipzig director Marcel Schäfer has discussed Simons’ future at the club.
Speaking to Sky Sports Deutschland, Schäfer spoke on whether Simons will be a Leipzig player come September 1st.
“Xavi Simons is still with us. But the market is still open, you never know what might happen.
“Xavi has expressed his ambitions to us.”
Schäfer‘s comments seem to imply that Simons’ future is away from the Bundesliga and in the Premier League.
With Chelsea winning 5-1 last night, just over a month on from being named FIFA Club World Cup champions, Simons would be joining a team high in spirit.
