RB Leipzig exploring move for Liverpool midfielder

This could be a very exciting move

Last season, some punters had wondered if RB Leipzig could mount a title charge.

The mood was positive, and Bayer Leverkusen had shown the monopoly could be broken.

Instead, they finished seventh, and missed out on European football for the first time in nine years.

As a result, Marco Rose was sacked, and replaced by Ole Werner.

After such a poor signing, a big summer is expected.

Their most notable signing so far has been PSV and Belgium winger Johan Bakayoko.

Other signings include Andrija Maksimovic from Red Star, and Yan Diomande from Leganes.

At the moment, the vast majority of the club’s headlines at the moment are regarding Benjamin Sesko.

Nevertheless, you can be confident they are working in the background to get deals done.

According to David Ornstein and Seb Stafford-Blor, Leipzig are speaking to Liverpool about a move for Harvey Elliott.

They report that it is at an early stage, but the German side are “exploring” and the clubs are talking.

Additionally. they state that the 22-year old is seen as potential replacement for Xavi Simons, who is expected to depart the club.

In the English Premier League last season, Elliott started just two games, and totalled 399 minutes over the course of the season.

Furthermore, that was before they broke the English transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz.

If he could not crack the first team before Wirtz arrived, his chances are incredibly slim now.

Over the summer, Elliott impressed many with his performances at the U21 Euros in Slovakia.

The attacking midfielder scored five goals and won player of the tournament, as England went all the way.

It is the second time he has won the competition, having done so in 2023 too, where he scored vs Germany.

Safe to say, he is now ready for that step up to senior international football. But he is not going to do that sat on the bench.

Although you feel he would love to stay and be a regular at Liverpool, it is clear that he needs to leave for the sake of his career.

In a World Cup year, he has to be playing games. If he does that, with his talent, he gives himself a shot at the World Cup squad.

England manager Thomas Tuchel was at the final where he scored a well taken goal. That will have done him no harm.

Neither will moving to a side where he will play regular games.

We have seen the Bundesliga be a great league for developing young players, including English ones.

The likes of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham have made a real name for themselves in Germany.

So, there is no reason why Elliott couldn’t either.
