RB Leipzig trying to reunite with former star

This could make a lot of sense

As always, there has been plenty going on with RB Leipzig this summer window.

Most notably, Benjamin Sesko departed to join Manchester United.

Meanwhile, club legend Yussuf Poulsen departed the club after 12 years, whilst a few other players have left.

There have also been a few incomings, with the signing of Johan Bakayoko from PSV the stand out.

That said, there could be an even more high profile incoming than that.

According to David Ornstein and Seb Stafford-Bloor, Leipzig are exploring a deal to resign Christopher Nkunku.

They state that although a deal is “not close yet”, the player is open to returning to the club.

Furthermore, they report that direct contact between the clubs has been made over a permanent move.

The Frenchman had been linked with a move to Bayern, but they did not want to commit to a permanent deal.

Whilst both Chelsea and the player would have preferred that instead of a loan deal.

Back in 2023, there was a lot of excitement when Nkunku joined Chelsea, but it has not worked out.

Injuries have disrupted any momentum for him in West London – with just 11 league starts in two seasons.

A move back to East Germany could well suit all three parties best.

Interestingly, Leipzig play Bayern on Friday evening in the Bundesliga curtain raiser.

It would be quite the narrative if he signs in time to play against Bayern.

Furthermore, Xavi Simons – often linked with Bayern – could play his last game for Leipzig before joining Chelsea.

Narrative all over the place.
