Real Madrid eye January move for Arsenal star

Madrid will now monitor his role closely before deciding whether to make an approach during the January transfer window.

Real Madrid started the 2026/27 season under Jose Mourinho after making several changes during the summer.

The Spanish side strengthened Mourinho’s squad with Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva. Madrid also pursued Rodri as they searched for greater control in midfield.

However, Barcelona eventually signed the Manchester City midfielder for €76.5 million after Madrid failed to complete a deal.

Mourinho has since relied on Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga in central midfield.

Madrid have now started planning for January as they consider another addition in that area. According to Sport, Real Madrid are considering a winter move for Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

The Spain international has lost his regular starting role under Mikel Arteta this season. Zubimendi has started on the bench in all five of Arsenal’s competitive matches so far.

He also remained among the substitutes for Arsenal’s Champions League game against Napoli before playing eight minutes.

The midfielder had already seen his role reduced towards the end of last season.

Zubimendi started the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on the bench and entered during extra time.

Madrid continue to rate the 27-year-old and value his performances for Spain. The club also considered Zubimendi during the summer before deciding against completing a move.

Arsenal paid €70 million to sign him and handed the midfielder a contract running until 2030. Sport reports that his current valuation remains around the same figure.

Chelsea could also provide competition for Zubimendi if his situation at Arsenal fails to improve.

Madrid will now monitor his role closely before deciding whether to make an approach during the January transfer window.
