Real Madrid are monitoring a new top target, with the player emerging as a potential January target. The Los Blancos are having a turbulent time at Santiago Bernabeu.

Injuries to their defenders are making the situation worse for Xabi Alonso. Now, there are question marks on his future at Madrid.

The board has given Alonso till the New Year to turn things around. Otherwise, they might look at other options available right now.

That is why Xabi Alonso wants to sign a new defender who can help him turn things around at Real Madrid.

Now, according to German outlet BILD, Real Madrid have identified Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano as a leading target.

There is an uncertainty surrounding his contract situation in Germany. The 27-year-old centre-back has yet to agree an extension with Bayern. His contract talks have dragged on for several months.

Reports in Germany suggest the France international wants to be among the club’s top earners, with figures of around €20 million per year mentioned, along with a sizeable signing-on bonus.

That situation has inevitably attracted interest from abroad, with both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain keeping a close watch on developments.

However, Bayern remain confident of securing Upamecano’s future. Sporting director Christoph Freund moved to calm speculation at the weekend, insisting negotiations are progressing positively.

Bayern believe the player is settled in Munich and would eventually sign the contract. However, Upamecano is not the only defender they have on their radar.

Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace is also another name, along with Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund.

While Madrid’s interest is real, Bayern remain optimistic that an agreement will be reached before any January move materialises.
