Some decisions at the biggest clubs in the world are never straightforward.
Even when they appear to be.
Real Madrid have spent much of this season managing uncertainty, with the future of two players decided.
Real Madrid confirm Endrick to stay next season
According to The Athletic, Real Madrid have made it clear they will not entertain any offers for Endrick this summer, assuring the 19-year-old Brazilian that he has an important role to play at the club going forward.
That’s a significant statement of intent.
Doubts over Endrick’s future had been building for some time, particularly given his limited opportunities in the first team.
But his loan spell at Lyon has changed the conversation entirely.
Fourteen goal involvements in 17 appearances, and 2 g/a vs Paris Saint-Germain, have reminded Real Madrid exactly what they have on their hands.
The club are now planning to reintegrate him fully into the squad next season, where he could be installed as a genuine option in that wide right role after excelling there in Ligue 1.
He’ll return from the World Cup with Brazil before heading back to Madrid to stake his claim.
The decision on Endrick, however, comes at a direct cost to Gonzalo Garcia.
The 22-year-old, who signed a new contract through to 2030, is now expected to be sold this summer to create space for Endrick’s return to the fold.
Garcia has made 33 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring six goals.
However, Madrid’s thinking is that his development is better served elsewhere, at least for now.
And the club are expected to insert a buy-back clause in any deal, a strategy they’ve used before.
Nico Paz left for Como with a buy-back; Jacobo Ramon followed the same route.
And now, with the uncertainty stripped away, Endrick can finish the season at Lyon.
Preparing for the World Cup knowing exactly what’s waiting for him on the other side.
