Real Madrid have been eyeing a move for a centre-back this summer. Last year, Madrid was not tight defensively.
That is why they went trophyless for the entire season. This is not usual for the Los Blancos.
So, when Xabi Alonso stepped in as the new manager, replacing Carlo Ancelotti, he demanded new defenders.
The Madrid club have fulfilled the wish of their new manager. They have signed 3 new defenders this summer.
Real Madrid have signed Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, and Alvaro Carreras from Benfica.
The Spanish boss got those players in before the Club World Cup. And, during that tournament, he realized that he needed another centre-back.
During the semi-final clash against PSG, both Antonio Rudiger and Raul Asencio made some silly mistakes. As a result, Real Madrid were humiliated by the French club on the world stage.
Since the tournament ended, Real Madrid are scouting for a new centre-back. They have set their sights on Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool.
The French centre-back played a key role in helping Liverpool win the Premier League last season.
Previously, Madrid have signed Trent Alexander-Arnold after his contract expired. However, they did pay a fee to get him out of his contract early from Liverpool for the Club World Cup.
Ibrahima Konate’s contract with Liverpool will expire next summer. However, Xabi Alonso is not ready to wait till next summer as he needs the French defender this season.
That is why Real Madrid have made an enquiry about the fee to sign Konate. According to Defensa Central (via Fichajes), Liverpool are asking for a fee of around €55 million.
The Los Blancos are not ready to pay that amount. They will now wait for Konate’s contract to expire, as he is not ready to sign a new contract.
So, Real Madrid have made up their mind about signing Ibrahima Konate as a free agent next summer.
