Newcastle United faced Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round at St. James’ Park. Real Madrid scouts were present at the game to monitor one of their key targets for the next summer.
There is no doubt that Real Madrid are a huge admirer of Rodri. The Ballon d’Or winner is their dream target for next summer.
His contract with Manchester City will expire in 2027. So, the Los Blancos are looking to secure his signature at a low price because of that.
However, Manchester City are also looking to extend his contract. The Citizens are scheduled to play Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16.
The Spanish giants are looking for a holding midfielder, and they believe Rodri can bring control to their midfield. However, the 29-year-old is not the only player Madrid are eyeing.
In fact, Rodri did not even feature for the Citizens in that game. So, the Real Madrid scouts were monitoring another midfielder they would like to sign next summer.
According to The Sun, Real Madrid scouts were monitoring Sandro Tonali ahead of a potential approach during the next summer transfer window.
The Italian has been linked with a move away from Newcastle United in recent times, with many top European clubs showing interest.
Also, with the current domestic form of the Magpies, it is unlikely they will be in the Champions League next season.
So, the 25-year-old could leave St. James’ Park with Real Madrid showing interest in him. Apart from Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal, and several Italian clubs are tracking him.
Thus, if the Spanish giants look to sign the Italian, they will face competition from top European clubs ahead of the next summer transfer window.
