Real Madrid are eyeing a move for a centre-back before the end of the summer transfer window. Xabi Alonso has made it clear to Florentino Perez that he needs a reliable man at the back.
After what happened last season and at the Club World Cup under Xabi Alonso, the Spanish boss is not so confident about the current centre-backs he has.
The reason why Real Madrid got humiliated in the semi-final of the Club World Cup by PSG was their centre-backs. Antonio Rudiger and Raul Asencio were at fault for at least 2 of the 4 goals PSG scored.
That is why Xabi Alonso wants change, and even after signing Dean Huijsen, Alvaro Carreras, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the former Bayer Leverkusen boss wants another defender.
The main target for Real Madrid has always been Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool. The French international is yet to sign a new contract with the Premier League champions.
His contract with Liverpool will expire next year, allowing Madrid to sign him for free. This has become a pattern for Real Madrid to sign players. They did the same while signing Trent.
Now, Florentino Perez is trying to convince Xabi Alonso to wait for the next season. It is because Real Madrid are targeting another centre-back, along with Konate, as a free agent.
According to BILD, Real Madrid are now setting their sights on Dayot Upamecano from Bayern Munich.
The French international is yet to sign a new contract with the German champions, and the new contract talks are now paused as the Bavarians are struggling to meet his demands.
So, next year, Dayot Upamecano will be available as a free agent just like Ibrahima Konate. And, Real Madrid might look to sign both centre-backs next season without paying a transfer fee.
🚨 Real Madrid are interested in signing Dayot Upamecano and are luring him with a lucrative contract to get him on a 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 next summer.
