Real Madrid are set to suffer a massive transfer blow. The Los Blancos are looking to sign a holding midfielder.

After the semi-final loss against PSG in the Club World Cup, Xabi Alonso got a reality check from his current squad.

The Madrid boss knows that he needs a few more additions to make this team worthy of challenging for the Champions League.

That loss in the hands of PSG ensured that Xabi Alonso got to know the players he can trust and the ones he can’t trust.

The Spanish coach is looking to add a midfielder who can keep hold of the possession and also break up the play whenever the team needs.

Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga are the two best options. At times, he can also use Federico Valverde in that position.

However, Real Madrid always look for the best option. That is why they are arguably the biggest football club in the world.

But, in this instance, it looks like the Los Blancos will have to suffer a massive transfer blow as their main target for the holding midfield position could be signing a new deal soon with the current club.

Yes, according to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City is set to offer a massive new deal to Rodri that will run until 2029.

This deal will make Rodri the second-highest earner of the club behind Erling Haaland. Manchester City know that Real Madrid have a strong interest in signing Rodri.

That is why they are looking to fend off any move for the Spaniard. With such a big deal, the Citizens are looking to show that they trust the midfielder.

So, it will be interesting to see when Rodri signs that deal or whether Real Madrid place a massive offer in front of him that he struggles to refuse.
