In recent years, Vinicius Junior has become the face of Real Madrid. However, many could argue that after the arrival of Kylian Mbappe, the Brazilian is no longer the face of the club.
When Mbappe arrived at Valdebebas, many expected Vinicius to form a formidable partnership with the Frenchman and win everything possible.
The Vinicius-Mbappe-Rodrygo trio would replicate what Bale-Benzema-Cristiano (BBC) did for the club.
However, in the very first season, the Real Madrid fans and board got a reality check.
Under Carlo Ancelotti, the Los Blancos went trophyless. This is not something Real Madrid are used to.
That is why they wanted to change things up within the club. So, they brought in a new manager, Xabi Alonso.
Under his leadership, the Real Madrid board thought their team would flourish once again.
The FIFA Club World Cup would become a trailer of what the European circuit would witness later on in the season in the Champions League.
However, the current Champions League winners ran riot and beat them 4-0 in the semi-finals.
After that heavy defeat, serious changes are about to take place at Santiago Bernabeu.
Rodrygo is already on the way out as Liverpool are looking favourites for him.
However, there was a belief that Vinicius Junior would extend his contract after the end of the Club World Cup.
But, that seemed to be a far cry now as Vinicius is not in a hurry to extend his contract at Real Madrid. His contract with the Los Blancos is ending in 2027.
According to Spanish sources, the real reason why Vinicius Junior is not renewing his Real Madrid contract is that the Brazilian is eyeing up the options he has on the table.
The 25-year-old knows that he could run his contract down and find a club where he can once again become the face of the project.
On the other hand, Vinicius Junior is one of the biggest names in the Real Madrid squad.
So, the Los Blancos cannot afford to lose him for free. If Vinicus is not ready to sign a new contract, Real Madrid will surely put him up for sale in the transfer market.
