Manchester United might not be making headlines for flashy sales this summer, but behind the scenes, they are quietly adding funds to their budget.

And it is not by selling stars but by cashing in on smart sell-on clauses.

Some of these deals were agreed upon long ago. Others came from more recent moves. But one thing is clear: United’s backroom team has been doing its homework.

Let us, at Transfer News Live, break it down for you.

A big chunk came from a winger who was once seen as a future superstar.

Jadon Sancho moved to Chelsea last summer on loan, and while the deal had some conditions, United planned ahead.

The clause said that if Chelsea finished higher than 14th, they would pay around £25 million to sign the winger permanently.

However, due to his huge wage demand, Chelsea decided against making that move permanent. So, they paid £5 million to get out of that deal.

Now, Jadon Sancho is back with Manchester United as the Red Devils are currently negotiating with Juventus for a permanent move.

Next comes Alvaro Carreras. The full-back is not a household name yet, but when he left for Benfica, United kept a 20% sell-on clause.

Now that Real Madrid are signing him, the clause has kicked in. United will receive about £7 million from the sale.

Then there is Maxi Oyedele. He joined Strasbourg this summer, but United had already planned for this.

They sold him to Legia Warsaw last year with a future sell-on clause built in. With this new move, United will pocket around £2 million.

The final boost came from Anthony Elanga. He left for Nottingham Forest in 2023 for £15m. The club included a sell-on clause between 15 and 20 percent.

Now that Forest have sold him to Newcastle United for a healthy profit, the Red Devils will bag about £6 million.

Add it all up, and Manchester United have made over £20 million this summer just from these clauses.

Now, the Manchester United will be looking to offload players like Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho to take their profits higher and invest it to bring in new faces to the club.
