Rodri looks to stay at Manchester City

Having previously rejected Real Madrid, Rodri is set to stay for another season at Manchester City.

Some transfer sagas build for months.

The speculation grows.

Denials pile up.

Reports multiply.

And then, quietly, the player makes a decision that cuts through all of it.

Rodri didn’t want Real Madrid.

He never did.

Rodri rejects Real Madrid at all costs as Manchester City hold firm and Barcelona pursuit leads nowhere

According to Exi Stant, Rodri rejected Real Madrid’s advances at every stage of their pursuit, with the Ballon d’Or winner having never genuinely considered the Bernabéu as his next destination, instead using Madrid’s interest as leverage to attract the attention of Barcelona.

That detail reshapes the entire summer narrative around one of football’s most coveted midfielders.

The Real Madrid links were real in terms of the club’s interest.

They were not real in terms of Rodri’s response.

He rejected them.

At all costs.

His heart was always pointed toward Barcelona.

A return to Spain, to Catalonia, to the club that represents a very specific footballing identity he has always identified with.

But Manchester City have the final say.

And their stance is unambiguous.

Rodri is not available this summer.

Not at any price.

The club’s position, is that they expect the Spaniard to play out the remaining year of his contract, which expires in 2027, before any conversation about his future becomes relevant.

That means another full season at the Etihad.

Another campaign under Enzo Maresca.

And yet another year of Rodri running the Etihad’s midfield under a new manager tasked with rebuilding in the most demanding possible circumstances.

For Barcelona, this update is a painful one.

The Catalan club had identified Rodri as their primary midfield target.

His contract expires in twelve months.

No new deal is currently being discussed.

And the possibility of Rodri eventually arriving at Camp Nou, on a free transfer, on his own terms, has not gone away.

It’s simply been deferred.

Manchester City have their player for one more year.

What happens after that is a story for next summer.
