Chelsea are looking to sign multiple players this summer to back their new manager, Xabi Alonso Also, they are looking to trim their squad and accommodate players who are aligned with Alonso’s plans.
Now, one of the main situations that the board will be looking to solve will be the goalkeeping situations.
Both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have failed to establish themselves as the outright starter.
That is why Chelsea are in the market to find a suitable option. They found Roma’s Mile Svilar as a suitable target. The Blues have also sent a bid of around €50 million for the Roma star man.
However, according to Corriere dello Sport, Roma have rejected the first bid from Chelsea for Mile Svilar. The Blues were offering €50 million, which would have certainly tempted Roma.
It is because they must comply with UEFA’s settlement agreement by June 30. As a result, if they did sell Svilar for €50 million, it would have been pure profit.
Svilar arrived at Roma on a free transfer in 2022. So, the board has surely made a huge gamble by not selling Svilar.
Now, they might have to part ways with some of their star performers such as Evan N’dicka or Manu Kone.
These players are already garnering interest from other top European clubs. However, Roma are determined to keep the crux of their squad intact for Gian Piero Gasperini.
As far as Chelsea go, they will now look at other goalkeepers. Mike Maignan has been a target for Chelsea for a long time.
The Frenchman did sign a new deal with Rossoneri to keep him at the club until 2031. Still, Chelsea might look to pursue him. However, without European football, it will be hard for the Blues.
Chelsea could now realise the true cost of missing out on European football in the transfer market.
