Schalke secured an immediate return to the Bundesliga after winning the 2. Bundesliga title last season.

Miron Muslic’s side collected 70 points, won 21 league matches and sealed promotion with a decisive victory over Fortuna Dusseldorf.

The Royal Blues have continued strengthening the squad during the summer transfer window.

Schalke have signed Satoshi Tanaka, Junior Adamu, Kevin Muller and Maximilian Wober, while Robin Gosens has also arrived on loan.

The club remain active as they prepare for life back in the Bundesliga. Pre-season has also produced encouraging signs.

Schalke recovered from an opening defeat to FC Gutersloh by winning their next four friendlies. Muslic’s side will now face Atalanta and Real Madrid before beginning their competitive campaign.

One experienced forward played a crucial role in Schalke’s promotion after arriving in January.

He scored six goals and provided three assists in only 11 appearances before captaining Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Schalke have now officially confirmed that former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has signed a new one-year contract until the summer of 2027.

The 40-year-old will continue wearing the number 10 shirt after helping Schalke secure promotion back to the Bundesliga.

He is also due to return to training this week following his World Cup break. Dzeko enjoyed a memorable spell at Manchester City between 2011 and 2015.

He won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup. The Bosnian also scored the famous equaliser against Queens Park Rangers before Sergio Aguero’s dramatic title-winning goal in 2012.

Schalke believe Dzeko can make another important contribution this season. The veteran striker also insisted he remains hungry to help the club compete after earning promotion back to Germany’s top flight.
