Marc Cucurella could become one of the major names to watch during the summer transfer window despite remaining an important player for Chelsea.
The Spanish defender has rebuilt his reputation over the last year after a difficult start to life in the Premier League.
His performances for both club and country have once again attracted attention across Europe.
Chelsea still view Cucurella as a valuable member of the squad, especially because of his energy, aggression and ability to operate in demanding tactical systems.
However, uncertainty around the club’s long-term project continues to generate speculation around several players at Stamford Bridge.
At the same time, one major Spanish club is now actively searching for a new left-back ahead of next season.
According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are seriously considering a move for Marc Cucurella this summer.
Diego Simeone is believed to admire the Chelsea defender and sees him as an ideal fit for his tactical approach. Cucurella also has previous experience in La Liga with Eibar and Getafe.
Reports further suggest the Spanish international has previously spoken positively about Simeone and the possibility of working under him one day. However, completing the transfer will be difficult.
Chelsea spent a huge amount to sign Cucurella and reportedly have no intention of allowing him to leave cheaply.
That means Atletico would likely need to submit a major offer if they want to convince Chelsea to negotiate during the summer window.
So, they are also looking at other targets, including Alejandro Grimaldo. However, Cucurella has now emerged as a priority target.
