Much earlier on this window, it looked like Spurs were going to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest.

After all, they had activated his release clause, and a medical had been booked.

Yet, just two weeks later – the midfielder signed a new contract at Forest, and a deal was completely off.

So, attentions turned elsewhere.

Particularly when James Maddison suffered an ACL injury during the club’s tour of East Asia.

The most prominent name in these links was Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace, with Spurs looking close to agreeing a deal.

Palace wanted the 27-year old to play in the first leg of their Conference League qualifier, and he was then free to go.

However, Arsenal unexpectedly came back in and took him off their toes, and he now looks set to go there instead.

So, once again – attentions turn elsewhere. Just with much less time to do so now.

According to Miguel Delaney, Spurs have contacted intermediaries over Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa.

He states the player is a priority target.

Although Villa do not want to sell, there is a feeling that an actual bid could change things amid PSR pressures.

Finally, Delaney states that his contract (which runs until 2030), means he will cost a lot more than Eze would.

He is also four years younger than his fellow England international.

On Tuesday evening, Rogers won the PFA young player of the year for the 24/25 English Premier League season.

During the campaign, he scored eight goals, provided 10 assists, and created 16 big chances in 37 league games.

On top of that, his ball carrying is up there with the very best in world football. He is incredibly hard to knock off the ball.

Another huge plus is the above stat about league games, and how he played (and started) 37 times in the league.

That sort of availability and durability is something Spurs could seriously do with, given recent injury history.

Furthermore, Rogers made 12 starts in the Champions League, and four in the FA Cup.

Meaning he started 53 game for Unai Emery’s side last season. A superb stat.

He also provides superb versatility – he is a player capable of playing in any of the three positions behind the striker.

Another homegrown player to add to the quota certainly does no harm either.

This would be a brilliant signing, though also very expensive. You’d imagine £80m or more.
