Newly promoted Sunderland have shocked the football world with the pending signing of Granit Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen.
The Swiss midfielder will join other exciting signings like Simon Adingra and Reinildo.
Over the last two seasons, all three promoted teams have gone straight back down.
But if Sunderland continue to show serious ambition, they may be the ones to buck the trend.
Well, they may be doing exactly that.
According to journalist Julien Laurens, The Black Cats are “going in for” Amine Adli, also of Bayer Leverkusen.
He says that they are “competing” with Wolves’ offer for the forward.
Encouragingly, Laurens states that the 2024 German Champions are not against letting the player go.
Furthermore, he states that the player’s priority is to come to England.
Adli joined Leverkusen back in 2021, and played a bit part role in the team’s famous domestic double in 23/24.
He would be another huge statement of intent for Regis Le Bris’ side.
That said, there is one caveat to a potential signing.
Much like Adingra, Reinildo, and a number of their other signings, he will be at the AFCON this winter.
His team, hosts Morocco, are the favourites for the competition and there is every chance they will go far into the tournament.
This means he could miss as many as seven games in the English Premier League.
Nevertheless, he is someone with a lot of quality, and overall it would be an exciting signing.
As for Wolves, it would be big blow to be gazumped by a newly promoted side, as fears continue over their safety.
Sunderland also going for Amine Adli now and competing with Wolves’ offer for the Bayer Leverkusen forward. Bayer are not against letting him go and his priority is to come to England. Sunderland will finalise Xhaka’ s deal first and then move for his former teammate Adli @ESPNFC
