The January transfer window closed yesterday. And once again, Manchester City made big moves in the winter.
Last year in January, they signed the likes of Nico Gonzalez, Omar Marmoush, and Abdukodir Khusanov. And this year, they signed two Premier League-proven superstars.
Antoine Semenyo joined City from Bournemouth, and Marc Guehi joined from Crystal Palace. Also, Liverpool signed Jeremy Jacquet. But the French defender will join next summer.
Arsenal, on the other hand, had a quiet window as they snuck a transfer very late. For United, the transfer window was quiet and a forgettable one.
They needed a midfielder and they didn’t sign one even after having their options available. For Tottenham Hotspur, Thomas Frank should be relatively happy.
His team has signed Conor Gallagher and Souza. Also, on the deadline day, they beat Arsenal for the signature of James Wilson from Hearts.
Also, there was drama on the deadline day with Jean-Philippe Mateta failing to secure the AC Move, and Tyrell Malacia had to return due to Patrick Dorgu’s injury.
Overall, it was an eventful January transfer window. But the bottom line is, of all Premier League clubs, Manchester City will be the happiest with their January business.
Now, the net spend of all Premier League clubs in the last five seasons is out. Many would expect City to lead in this one. But it is their rivals, Manchester United, who lead the list with €783 million.
The Premier League leaders, Arsenal, are in second place with €770 million, followed by Chelsea and Tottenham with €755 million and €666 million respectively.
Surprisingly, Manchester City are in 7th place, and Liverpool are just a position above them. Only Brighton and Hove Albion have a negative net spend with -€2.8 million.
