This would be a clever addition

It has been a big summer for West Ham United.

We saw Mohammed Kudus controversially join London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Stalwarts Aaron Cresswell, Michail Antonio, Vladimir Coufal and Lukasz Fabianski all also left the club.

We have seen El Hadji Malick Diouf replace Cresswell, and Callum Wilson replace Antonio.

Meanwhile, the club moved to bring in Kyle Walker-Peters to replace Coufal.

It now seems as if the club have found their replacement for Fabianski too.

As per Sky Sports, West Ham have agreed a fee with Leicester City to sign Mads Hermansen.

They report the fee will be £18 million pounds, and that the keeper was Graham Potter’s first choice target.

Despite a dismal season for the Foxes which resulted in relegation, Hermansen still impressed with his displays.

This feels similar to back in 2018, where the aforementioned Fabianski joined from recently relegated Swansea City.

That deal proved that there is real value in signing players from relegated clubs. A bad side does not equal a bad player.

Furthermore, West Ham’s current goalkeeping coach is Casper Ankegren – who worked with Hermansen at Brondby.

After a terrible 24/25 season, where the Hammers finished 14th, they will be desperate to get off to a quick start.

With signings like Hermansen, it is clear that they have focused hard on upgrading their starting XI this summer.

We have seen Alphonse Areola look suspect during pre-season in between the sticks.

It feels unlikely that they have brought in the Danish keeper to sit on the bench.

Likewise, it doesn’t feel like he would have made the move without assurances either.

In a World Cup year, with Kasper Schmeichel pushing 40, he will feel like a good season could make him Denmark’s number one.
