So far this summer, we have seen plenty of turnover at West Ham United.

Lukasz Fabianski, Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell, Mohammed Kudus and Vladimir Coufal have all left the club.

Out of those players, only Kudus brought in a transfer fee for Graham Potter’s side.

Meanwhile, El Hadji Malick Diouf, Callum Wilson, Mads Hermansen and Kyle Walker-Peters have all joined the club.

The Hammers will be hoping that Walker-Peters is not the only player who joins from Southampton this summer.

They have been hoping to bring in midfielder Matheus Fernandes from the South Coast club.

At 21, he is seen as a player with a huge future, and looked bright in a poor side last season.

However, there has been a bump in the road for West Ham.

Mark McAdam has reported on twitter (with Lyall Thomas mentioned), that they have had a bid of £30m rejected for Fernandes.

He states that Southampton are asking for closer to £5om, and that they do not want to sell.

Finally, he says that although it is unclear whether they will bid again, talks are continuing between the two clubs.

It has been clear to see for a while that West Ham have an incredibly slow and lethargic midfield.

None of Tomas Soucek, Guido Rodriguez, James Ward-Prowse or Edson Alvarez particularly have any athleticism or speed.

The signing of Fernandes would give them some much needed dynamism in the middle of the park.
