Perhaps a smart move

It has been a depressing few weeks for West Ham United.

Earlier on in the summer, Mohammed Kudus joined London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Then, to start the season, they lost 3-0 away at newly promoted Sunderland.

Which was followed by a 5-1 defeat at home to Chelsea, despite taking the lead in the game.

One of the new signings that played in both games was goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

In neither of the games did he cover himself in glory, with eight goals conceded and two or three goals where he looked suspect.

So much so that West Ham appear to be back on the market for another goalkeeper.

As per Ben Jacobs, The Hammers have reignited their interest in Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor.

He reports that a €10m fee had been agreed in principle, before turning to Hermansen in a deal driven by Graham Potter.

Jacobs finishes off by saying that West Ham are now working on a loan with an option to buy the goalkeeper.

Victor has made 37 appearances for Botafogo this season, and has consistently impressed.

However, during their last outing, he found himself on the bench, with new signing Neto from Bournemouth preferred.

Should the Brazilian side persist with Neto moving forward, this could open the door to a loan for Victor.

If West Ham can get a loan with an option to buy agreed, it would feel like very smart and low risk business.
