France saw their World Cup hopes end after a painful 2-0 semi-final defeat against Spain. Les Bleus entered the tournament among the favourites and impressed during the earlier rounds.
However, Kylian Mbappe and his teammates failed to find their best level against Spain. The defeat also brought Didier Deschamps’ long spell in charge closer to its conclusion.
Deschamps has led France for 14 years and delivered the World Cup title in 2018. He also set the record for the most World Cup match victories by a manager.
Now, the French Football Federation is preparing to begin a new chapter with another national legend.
Zinedine Zidane remains the leading candidate to replace Deschamps after the tournament. The former Real Madrid manager already has a long-standing verbal agreement with the federation.
Zidane will inherit a squad filled with elite talent and immediate expectations. However, another member of the Zidane family has also made an important career decision.
Cordoba CF have officially announced that Theo Zidane has signed a new contract until 2027.
The agreement means Zinedine Zidane’s son will remain with the Spanish club for a third consecutive season.
Theo Zidane joined Cordoba CF before the 2024/25 campaign and enjoyed a strong first season.
He scored five goals across 37 appearances and established himself as a useful midfield option.
However, his role changed during the 2025/26 season. The 24-year-old made 22 appearances but started only four matches during the campaign.
He mainly featured from the bench and provided energy during the closing stages of games. His final appearance came against SD Huesca in a 1-1 draw.
Zidane entered that match as a substitute after 19 minutes. Despite his reduced role, Cordoba CF have now chosen to keep him for another season.
The midfielder will continue in LaLiga Hypermotion and look to earn more regular opportunities.
